Dressing Poetics
I designed this book for Aalto Books, part of Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki. The publication “Dressing Poetics: The Costume-Image in Soviet Poetic Cinema” is the doctoral thesis of Alexandra Ovtchinnikova, exploring the expressive role of costume in Soviet poetic cinema. The design translates the thesis’s visual and conceptual depth into a refined, contemporary format. Through careful use of typography, layout, and imagery, it reflects the dialogue between costume and narrative, enhancing the reader’s experience and understanding of this cinematic phenomenon.
